Intercultural Turkey Study Tour

AIS will embark on its 9th annual intercultural study tour ”Timeless Cities” to Turkey on the 9th- 24th October 2015. Turkey with its incredible history and thousands of years of culture delivers historical; touristic and geographically fascinating locations whilst they presenting the opportunity to meet and socialise with the locals and enjoy the delicious foods and culture. There are two sides to every story- Turkish preceptive to Gallipoli

An event to commemorate the Gallipoli campaign was held at Deakin University’s Melbourne City Centre; with representatives or members of more than 50 organisations present.

Keynote speaker was Associate Professor Mesut Uyar; visiting fellow at UNSW Canberra. As a soldier-turned-academic with expertise on Ottoman military history and four years of experience in Gallipoli as a junior officer; he was able to describe the details of specific attacks during the war. The role of unions in building a better future for marginalised Australian

The Australian Intercultural Society organised a luncheon for about 40 guests on 18 August 2015; featuring Head of Australian UnionsGed Kearny. The event was titled; “The role of unions in building a better future for marginalised Australians”.

Welcoming remarks were given by Ahmet Keskin; executive director of AIS; followed by an introduction by facilitator Ray Francis Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Monash University.During her talk; Ged shone a light on the inequality faced by many in the community in particular women and migrant workers.
